In 2025, NCCR AntiResist is collaborating with Interfinity to bring you Surviving Superbugs – A Dance To Resist, an interdisciplinary performance of science, choreography, music and visual arts, with moderator Dr. Henry Legg conveying the dangers of the “creeping pandemic” of AMR, while the latest methods and innovative approaches of research and the pharmaceutical industry are brought to life in a visual spectacle at the Voltahalle in Basel.
With its unique cross-disciplinary productions at the interface of science, music and art, the innovative and interdisciplinary Basel music festival Interfinity serves a unique and new genre that reaches a large and diverse audience and has a regional and international impact.
AntiResist is hosting two of the festival events at the Biozentrum of the University of Basel, as well as collaborating with the two major performances at the Voltahalle.

As a prelude to Surviving Superbugs – A Dance To Resist, two directors of the NCCR AntiResist (Prof. Dr. Christoph Dehio and Prof. Dr. Nina Khanna) will be speaking at the Biozentrum as part of a panel discussion with Anne Lévy (Director of the BAG), Dr. Ken Bradley (Roche, Global Head Infectious Disease Discovery), Dr. Marc Gitzinger (CEO and Co-Founder BioVersys), Martin Heidecker (AMR Action Fund) and Dr. Andreas Wallnöfer about the health and socio-political impacts of the “creeping pandemic” caused by antibiotic resistance.

As a second prelude to the dance performance Surviving Superbugs – A Dance To Resist, which deals with the challenge of antibiotic resistance and the “creeping pandemic” of AMR, the writers Alain Claude Sulzer and Ursula März invite you to a dialogic lecture in the form of a lecture recital. The focus is on the theme of the apocalypse. The evening will be accompanied musically by the pianist Denis Linnik, who will interpret works by Debussy, Liszt, Cowell, Yun and Ravel.

In this impressive symbiosis of science, choreography, music and visual arts, moderator Dr. Henry Legg captivatingly conveys the dangers of the “creeping pandemic” of AMR, while the latest methods and innovative approaches of research and the pharmaceutical industry are brought to life in a fascinating way.
Through words and dance we explain how conventional antibiotics work and how bacteria develop resistance to them. You will also learn more about the historical and socio-political background of their research and development. The internationally acclaimed choreographer Giuseppe Spota and his dance ensemble MiR, the award-winning composer Yair Klartag and the visual artist Michele Innocente take you on a haunting and poetic journey into the human body – down to the micro level, where the fight against antibiotic resistance rages.
Following the performance, an aperitif (included in the ticket price) invites you to talk to scientists and experts. This offers you the opportunity to ask questions in an informal atmosphere and to exchange ideas with research luminaries on one of the most pressing issues in society and modern medicine. The event (premiere) will be opened with a speech by government councilor Kaspar Sutter.
